IOWA — Where did the snow go? Two warm days have erased almost all but the biggest snow piles across the state. We are turning cooler today, but another warming trend starts Wednesday, and your weather timeline takes you into it.

We’ll warm Wednesday into Friday, when winds again pick up. The warmth plus some things going on aloft will set us up for a chance for severe storms in the afternoon Friday. The SPC and Colorado State severe outlooks are below, and highlight central and eastern Iowa.

On the left below, jet stream winds fanning out above Iowa Friday will lead to rising air in the lower atmosphere, and rotation in the mid-levels will also be present. The third image shows areas where there will be a chance for storms to rotate Friday afternoon.

As shown in the images below from the European computer model, storms will fire over the WHO 13 viewing area in the afternoon Friday, then move quickly to the east. Severe weather will be possible. Rainfall amounts don’t look to be very impressive. We could see lingering showers in parts of Iowa on a breezy, cooler Saturday, and northern Iowa could see some snow later in the day.

As shown in the European model’s ensemble forecast, Saturday’s snow chance in Des Moines is very low, but there will be a better chance of snow starting Wednesday night next week. We’ll keep an eye on it for you.

Your warming temperature forecast can be seen in the gallery below. We’ll cool again for the weekend before the mercury rises just in time for St. Patrick’s Day!

Your WHO 13 7-day forecasts follow. Have a good Tuesday!
