We’ve melted a fair amount of snow across the state Sunday, and we’ll continue to do so Monday with a warm and windy one. Your weather timeline takes you into it…

Lows Sunday night should stay above freezing in most areas, we then turn to a day with winds gusting to 35+ mph out of the southwest. That factor combined with dry conditions will give us a high fire danger in parts of the state, as shown below.

We cool down briefly Tuesday, then start a warming trend that will take us into Friday, when a powerful storm system will move out onto the Plains. The Storm Prediction Center has added parts of Iowa to their Friday outlook, and the Colorado State University severe weather algorithm highlights the same area:

Storms look to fire late afternoon and evening, with some rain lingering into a breezy Saturday. Snow is also possible in parts of the state.

A look at rainfall estimates for late Friday and Saturday below:

The European computer model’s ensemble forecast does give us a light chance to see snow in the metro Saturday. Any amounts would be very light. A better chance comes around the 19th.

Turning to temperatures, we’ll be near records this week. Des Moines’ are as follows:
- Monday: 75 (1917, 2021)
- Wednesday: 77 (1916)
- Thursday: 77 (2007, 2012)
- Friday: 81 (2012)

Extended forecasts are starting to trend back towards average temperatures and precip. as we move farther into March. Your 7-day forecasts are below as well. Enjoy the nicer weather!
