DES MOINES, Iowa — Several agencies responded to north Des Moines on a two-alarm fire that started in a garage and spread to a grass fire.

According to the Saylor Township Fire Chief, at around 2:30 p.m. they were called to the 1000 block of northeast 43rd Place on a report of detached structure fire.

Fire Chief Hunter says when they arrived on scene, they found one garage fully engulfed. They rang a second alarm to bring in assistance from neighboring fire departments.

The fire spread into a grass fire and then to a shed on an adjacent property.

With the help of responding agencies, firefighters were able to get the fire under control and extinguished. Fire Chief Hunter says they were able to extinguish the fire in just under 45 minutes.

According to the Saylor Township Fire Department, one detached garage is a complete loss. No homes were damaged, and no injuries were reported.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has been opened.
