ANKENY, Iowa — An Ankeny family chose to give out hot dogs instead of candy to trick or treaters on Halloween.
Tracy Mott, an Ankeny resident, said that she got the idea to give out hot dogs on Halloween from her sister.
“Ten years ago, my sister started handing out hotdogs at her house in Bondurant and so this year, we just moved here in March, and so we wanted to do something cool and be that house, whether full size candy bars, whatever. And then we decided, Oh, let’s be that hot dog house for Ankeny,” Mott said.
Mott said that she wanted to provide an alternative to candy for kids in the neighborhood.
“I know we don’t really buy a lot of candy for our kids. So this is just another way that, like we kind of, I don’t know from promote not candy,” Mott said.
Mott said next year she plans to expand.
“We want to have a whole thing through the yard, like make it a trail back through the back yard. You have it more of like an adventure for the kids. Not just like here’s a hotdog, here’s candy, but like, this is like the scary house or this is a fun house. So we want to do it bigger every year,” Mott said.
