NEW YORK CITY — We are officially 100 days out from the Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina, and dozens of athletes have descended on New York City as they prepare for the world stage. Justin Surrency explains how Team USA plans to make a statement before they even compete.
“We’re in New York City at the Team USA Media Summit, a multi-day event where nearly 60 athletes have been handpicked by Team USA, hoping to make history at the Winter Olympics,” Surrency reports. “To perform your best, you definitely have to feel your best.”
He got an exclusive look at a new fashion line for the Olympians that proves once they step foot on Italian soil, they’ll also be looking their best. Surrency spoke with ice dance pair and 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic gold medalists Madison Chock and Evan Bates, who are preparing for their fourth Olympics.
Asked if it feels real when they start seeing the new Olympic gear, Bates said, “Absolutely. This is one of my favorite parts about the Olympics — just seeing the kit that Ralph Lauren creates for the team. They always nail it with their style, design, and cuts. It’s just flawless.”
When asked which pieces stood out, Bates replied, “I particularly love the sweaters. The knitwear is so beautiful, and there’s something so nostalgic about it — especially when you think about the Winter Olympics, being in the mountains, cozying up in that nice Ralph knit. It’s just the best.”
Chock added, “I have to agree with Evan. The knitwear and the coats — the wool cashmere blend — is so cozy and perfect for running around a Winter Olympic village.”
Surrency then asked about their hopes for Milan Cortina. Bates said, “It would mean the world. It’s really the ultimate goal for any athlete who dreams of being in the Olympic Games—you want to win an Olympic gold medal for your country. That’s what we’re working towards. We’ve got a really strong team — not just with Madison and myself — but across the board. The figure skating team is really strong, and we’re hoping to defend that gold medal in Milan.”
Surrency concluded by wishing them luck in Cortina, Italy, as they prepare to represent Team USA once again. “We’ll be cheering you on from afar,” he said. “Hopefully, you’ll bring home more hardware.”
This marks the 10th year that Ralph Lauren has partnered with Team USA for its Villagewear collection. Athletes will be looking their best in a city known for fashion as well. Polo Ralph Lauren plans to announce the opening and closing ceremony uniforms in early December.
