DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man is facing multiple charges following a short police chase that ended in a crash early Wednesday morning. Four people, including the driver, were hospitalized with serious injuries due to the crash, according to police.

Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer of the Des Moines Police Department, said following his release from the hospital, 21-year-old Naite Tanta will be charged with three counts of Serious Injury by Vehicle-Eluding, OWI, Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana, and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.

Tanta was the driver of a vehicle noticed by a DMPD patrol officer just after 1:00 a.m., traveling at a high rate of speed and running a stop sign at 12th Street and College Avenue, said Sgt.
