Teenager injured in Sunday morning shooting on eastside of Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department is conducting a shooting investigation after a teenager was injured Sunday morning.

According to the department, Des Moines police officers and Des Moines Fire Department rescue personnel responded to 3728 Hubbell Avenue just after 8 a.m. on Sunday on reports of a shooting at an apartment building.

Once on the scene, police say that the responding officers found a 16-year-old female injured by the gunfire. The minor was transported by medics to a local hospital in downtown. Medical care is ongoing and the victim’s condition is not yet known at this time.

There has been a potential suspect identified, according to DMPD, but that individual is not in police custody yet. The department also shared that the early investigation indicates that this was a targeted incident, while adding that there is no ongoing danger to the neighborhood.

Des Moines Police Department Crimes Against Persons unit detectives are continuing the investigation, with additional information that will be released when the department makes it available.
