Another shop moving out of Valley West Mall

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The mall move-out at Valley West continues, this time with the departure of a Ukrainian bakery.

European Taste will exit the mall later this year and reopen a shop in Grimes off Destination Drive. The bakery is known for its honey cake, creme brulee, baklava, and coffee.

Owner Alina Dvorschii says she’s had a solid customer base since opening her business about 18 months ago. She notes that the mall has been good to her since first setting up shop, but business in that location is becoming more challenging.

Dvorschii says an extended closure at Valley West Mall over the summer due to water main repairs hurt business. Some customers assumed the mall closed for good. And she says her business feels the impact of reduced foot traffic for every store that leaves the mall.

The future of Valley West Mall remains uncertain. That uncertainty, along with dwindling numbers of both stores and people at the mall, has caused yet another shop to choose to move elsewhere.

WHO 13 News reached out to Valley West Mall’s management for comment on this story and did not hear back.

European Taste will continue in its current location for about another month. The new location is set to open in Grimes in early December.
