DES MOINES, Iowa – The chief academic officer of the Des Moines School District has been placed on leave.
According to school staff, the district placed Dr. Robert Lundin on paid leave on October 6th. The district is not releasing additional information, describing the situation as a “personnel matter.”
The school board hired Lundin in May of last year. His duties include curriculum development, long-range goal setting, and advising the district’s superintendent on educational issues.
The Des Moines School Board initially placed former superintendent Ian Roberts on leave following his arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement last month, for allegedly being in the country illegally. He was later charged with federal gun crimes and making a false statement for employment, which he pleaded not guilty to this week.
Roberts resigned as superintendent on September 30th.
Matt Smith, the Associate Superintendent, was appointed Interim Superintendent following Roberts’ resignation.
