Forecast: Warm Thursday, then cooling and rain

DES MOINES, Iowa — We’ve had some light rain Wednesday, with most accumulation happening north of Highway 30. A warm front moving north across Iowa has provided the lifting mechanism to produce the showers, and has also lifted temperatures over yesterday’s in many areas.

Lows Wednesday night will stay mild as the warm front continues to move north. We’ll see a few spotty showers tonight and Thursday morning, but most of that activity will die down after this evening. Thursday will be a warm and breezy day.

A cold front associated with the same system will approach the state late Friday, kicking off rain chances that will last from the afternoon into early Saturday morning. Rain gear may be needed for Friday evening football.

A third rain chance will come our way Saturday evening into early Sunday morning in association with a fast-moving system coming in from the northwest. Rainfall estimates by Sunday are below.

Highs will stay above average through a windy Sunday, then dip briefly below on Monday. We may see a few showers again on Tuesday.

The extended forecasts below keep us warmer than average through the end of the month.
