POLK COUNTY, Iowa — A cyclist on the High Trestle Trail was killed Thursday morning after being hit by a dump truck while crossing a road east of Polk City.
Lt. Mark Chance, Public Information Officer for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, said the collision happened between 10:00 a.m. and 10:10 a.m. The cyclist, an adult female, was traveling southbound on the High Trestle Trail on a recumbent tricycle when she was struck by a dump truck hauling a trailer while crossing NW 44th Street.
The dump truck was traveling southbound on NW 44th Street between NW 126th Ave. and NW 118th Avenue at the time of the collision.
The cyclist was pronounced on the scene.
Traffic investigators with the PCSO are investigating the scene, and detectives are interviewing witnesses.
The area where the crash took place is about two miles from the Polk City center.
