JOHNSTON, Iowa — A special exhibit featuring a restored 1942 Harley-Davidson WLA military motorcycle is on display at the Iowa Gold Star Museum until October 11th.
The motorcycle, often the first U.S. military vehicle to arrive in European communities freed from German occupation during World War II, was nicknamed “The Liberator.”
John Quinnell, a restoration technician, said, “Over the course of two to three years. I acquired parts from people who know people, who know people, and military swap meets, and eBay, of course, always helped. So, and eventually it all came together,”
In addition to the motorcycle exhibit, the museum’s free indoor gallery is also available for viewing.
