DES MOINES, Iowa — A multi-vehicle crash involving a stolen vehicle in Des Moines sent one person to the hospital Friday afternoon.
At around 1:30 p.m., the Des Moines Police Department says officers responded to the intersection of East 14th Street and Des Moines Street on a report of a crash with injury. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found three vehicles had crashed and that one of the vehicles had been reported stolen.
According to the DMPD, witnesses told officers that the driver of the stolen vehicle, a 2020 Kia Optima, fled from the scene right after the crash occurred and appeared to be carrying a firearm. Police said the search for the driver continues.
The passenger in the stolen vehicle was injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The DMPD said the passengers’ injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
No additional information has been released.
