DES MOINES, Iowa — Superintendent Dr. Ian Roberts of Des Moines Public Schools had his legal team give Des Moines Public Schools his letter of resignation on Tuesday afternoon.
Alfredo Parrish, Roberts’ attorney, gave reporters at the press conference a letter from his former legal representation in Texas. The letter was dated March 27, 2025. It read, in part, “I am writing to inform you of the closure of your immigration case … I am pleased to report that your case has reached a successful resolution.”
Roberts’ had a final removal order from an immigration judge in May of 2024. That order stated that Roberts did not appear at the proceedings and that he was to be deported to Guyana, his birth country, or somewhere else. The order was obtained by Congressman Zach Nunn (R) through the Department of Homeland Security. Nunn’s office told WHO 13 News that the partial document was the only part of the document relevant to Roberts’ final removal order. Parrish is wanting to see the docket in its entirety.
“If someone has a partial page of a docket sheet, it doesn’t mean a whole lot,” said Parrish. “We just don’t jump on decisions until we receive the full docket.”
WHO 13 News discussed the letter with Congressman Zach Nunn on Tuesday.
“I think we need to understand why this individual felt the necessity to not just lie to the school board, but lie to members of the community. How he was able to hide in plain sight after a deportation order had been issued. And these questions will be there for his attorneys as well to understand where did they fail in helping him through a process,” said Rep. Nunn (R) IA-03.
