DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines School Board is holding a special session Monday to discuss taking further action after the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners revoked DMPS Superintendent Dr. Ian Roberts’ license.
Over the weekend, the school board voted to place Roberts on paid administrative leave, but now, after the BOEE revoked his Professional Administrator license, which was granted back in 2023, the school district said in a press release Monday that the board is forced to take further action.
The board met for a special session at 4:45 p.m. at Central Campus. Shortly after the meeting began the board voted to go into a closed session and left the room. Once they return from the closed session, you can watch the full public meeting in the video player above.
The revocation of Roberts’ license comes after he was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement late Friday morning. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Roberts was given a final order of removal by an immigration judge in May 2024 and had no work authorization. Officials also claim that Roberts fled from officers when confronted on Friday and that a loaded gun, a hunting knife, and $3,000 in cash were found in his vehicle when he was taken into custody.
