Des Moines festival honors Latino culture with food and fun

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Latino Heritage Festival drew thousands to downtown Des Moines at Western Gateway Park over the weekend.

It was two packed days, with both Saturday and Sunday filled with games, inflatables, stage entertainment and various food and drink vendors.

The event provided a space for everyone to come together and celebrate. The event isn’t open to only those of Latino decent, but everyone wanting to learn more and celebrate the Latino community and try out both traditional activities and foods.

Sugglis Chinchilla, the owner of Chinchilla Concessions, has been coming to the Iowa Latino Heritage Festival for the past four years offering a variety of traditional Latino foods, along with American favorites. Chinchilla said that it’s important to hold festivals like this for people with different ethnicities to come together and learn about each other, while also having fun.

The festival wraps up on Sunday. It will be open from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. with food, activities and music. A full schedule of events can be found here.
