DES MOINES, Iowa — Corinthian Baptist Church was packed for a meeting between community members to discuss Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ian Roberts’ detention by ICE on Friday.
“I want to be very clear. We’re not just going to throw Dr. Roberts away,” Rep. Johnson said at the gathering.
Rep. Johnson said that he will demand Dr. Roberts is released from ICE custody.
“We’re going to be action-based and we’re going to get things done and we demand the release of Dr. Roberts,” Rep. Johnson said.
The president of the NAACP Iowa and Nebraska chapter and members of Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice also spoke at the gathering.
