DES MOINES, Iowa — High pressure is now in control of Iowa’s weather pattern. This will keep the state dry and warm the rest of the month. Last September was even drier at this time of the year, with less than an inch in the rain gauge. Right now, Des Moines measures at 1.77″ of rain. The average rainfall amount in late September is around 2.62″. With no more rain on the way this month, this makes Des Moines short by 0.85″.

The drought conditions are released each Thursday. This week’s drought monitor shows parts of southern Iowa are the driest in the state.

The 7 day forecast keeps the state dry through the first day of October.

The October outlook starts off dry and warm too.

The average high in late September is around 74 degrees.

The overall airmass is looking dry with light winds. This should help with the harvest going on right now in Iowa.
