DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Biergarten hosted its first Oktoberfest Sept. 19-21 with events for the whole family.

The weekend was full of fun with live music, burlap sack races, a pretzel toss, traditional German food and beer, and an Oktoberfest tradition, a stein holding contest.

The event is free for people to attend with all activities happening throughout the day and into the night.

For those wanting to check out Oktoberfest at the Des Moines Biergarten, events on Sunday will start at 11 a.m. and will end after the Bad Friends band performs starting at 7 p.m.
