URBANDALE, Iowa — Wednesday is Constitution Day in the United States, and Living History Farms unveiled a new exhibit coinciding with the celebration.
“The Road to Liberty” exhibit is 85 posters displaying the signers of the Declaration of Independence, historical events during the Revolutionary War and honors women of the Revolution. There are descriptions of each individual person and events next to the photos in the Living History Farms Kemin Cultivation Center.
“I would say a lot of these events might be well known, but to actually see an image, a depiction of that event is, is very inspiring. And all the information that’s available with all the panels is just going to add more context and information, maybe the basic information that people know,” said Chris McDougal, Curator of Collections, Archives & Exhibits at Living History Farms.
The exhibit will be open for around 12 to 16 months, well into 2026, for families to come in and enjoy. The timing of the exhibit release aligned with a preview screening event put on by PBS at Living History Farms. We The People: Community, Service and the American Revolution is a film by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt. It will be available to the public in November of this year.
With today’s political climate, McDougal said that the exhibit serves as a reminder to people of where the country came from.
“It’s inspiring, I think, to to see where we started and what that was all about, what the Revolution was all about, the freedoms that we enjoy because of these individuals, what they did, their sacrifice and keep that in mind and learn during the current times that we’re in right now,” said McDougal.
