JASPER COUNTY, Iowa — A semi rollover on I-80 near Newton, and a second crash caused by the backup, blocked the westbound lanes of traffic for a couple of hours Thursday morning.
Sgt. Alex Dinkla of the Iowa State Patrol said the first incident happened around 4:15 a.m. when a semi rolled over at Mile Marker 168 in the westbound lanes.
About 15 minutes later, a westbound semi rear-ended another semi at Mile Marker 178 amid the traffic backup caused by the original crash.
Sgt. Dinkla said no injuries were reported in either of the collisions.
I-80 westbound between Exit 173: County Road T22 and Exit 168: Iowa Speedway Drive was blocked off while the crash scenes were investigated and cleared. A detour was put in place for drivers during the closure.
The westbound lanes of I-80 were reopened around 7:06 a.m.
