Iowa weather: A slight cooldown and then a soaker by midweek

DES MOINES, Iowa — We’ve had a few spotty showers and storms today, but most of the viewing area has missed out on rainfall. That will change starting Wednesday. Your weather timeline breaks down the next 48 hours:

Lows tonight will again be warm given the time of year. And we’ve again fallen below average in terms of rainfall for the month.

An upper-level area of low pressure will move over our neck of the woods starting Wednesday. Another area of low pressure on the East Coast will remain nearly stationary, and a high over the Great Lakes and southeastern Canada will do the same. In short, the atmosphere will be on “pause”. Because of this, rain chances will begin midweek, and may not end until next Monday. While it won’t rain the entire time, the duration of the rain chances will cause us to see 1-2″ totals during that timeframe.

The slideshow above shows cooling highs over the next 6 days. Your WHO 13 7-day forecasts are below. The extended forecasts below look to keep us in above-average temperatures and above-average rainfall.
