AMES, Iowa — Students and staff at Iowa State University are gearing up for CyHawk game day.
Iowa State students said they are looking forward to all of the fun on Saturday.
“Tailgating, watching the actual game and just seeing everyone,” said Tucker Ambrose, a junior at Iowa State. “It’s a good time here.”
“Looking forward to us beating Iowa,” said Iowa State sophomore Jakob Schmidt. “Obviously, we have a much better team, I would say, and the atmosphere is going to be great. I think we have a great environment here, all the tailgates, all that stuff. So it’s gonna be a great game.”
The Iowa State University Police Department said they are expecting almost double the amount of people coming to Ames compared to other home games. Some opt to tailgate and watch the game on TV from outside of the stadium.
ISU PD Chief of Police, Michael Newton, said to have a parking plan before arriving to Ames. That can include purchasing parking ahead of time in a reserved lot, or free parking on the Iowa State campus. There is no tailgating in free lots on the ISU campus. Reserved lots open at 6 a.m.
Chief Newton also said that fans need to be patient when leaving after the game. There will be 120,000 people trying to leave the stadium area at the same time. Slow down, take your time and listen to parking personnel to keep everything running smooth.
