DES MOINES, Iowa — State Representative Josh Turek (D), District 20 from Council Bluffs announced his U.S. Senate campaign three weeks ago.
Turek is serving his second term in the Iowa House, touting himself as an Iowa Democrat holding the reddest seat by someone from the state party. Turek is a two-time Paralympic gold medalist for Team USA and is involved extensively in the Council Bluffs community through his nonprofit work.
Turek was born with spina bifida, as his dad was exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam. With the extensive surgeries and medical care required at such a young age, the state representative is running on the shortfalls in the nation’s health care system.
Turek talked with WHO 13’s Zach Fisher on Tuesday, the same day that incumbent Senator Joni Ernst (R) announced her decision to not run for reelection. Watch the full interview in the link above, where he discusses Ernst’s decision, along with other policy points he is running on. To learn more about the candidate you can visit his website.
