JASPER COUNTY, Iowa — On Wednesday, officials released the name of the inmate who died at the Jasper County Jail.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said that shortly after midnight on Tuesday an inmate at the county jail was found unresponsive. Medical care was requested but the inmate was later pronounced dead.
The inmate, now identified as 31-year-old Merissa Marie Hogan of Algona, was being held at the jail while awaiting her initial appearance for a charge of Operating While Intoxicated – First Offense issued by the Newton Police Department.
According to the sheriff’s office, no foul play is suspected in Hogan’s death. An autopsy to determine her cause of death is underway.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the death investigation.
