Spotty Sunday showers linger into Labor Day

Dreary areas in Central Iowa were common on Sunday. A steady light rain fell over much of southwest Iowa and that continues on this Labor Day. There were also spotty downpours in Central Iowa Sunday afternoon.

The rain that fell in spots was not all encompasing. Only a few places saw rain. Here’s a look at some of the 24 hour totals for Sunday through 6 AM Monday.

Here are some of the other totals in Central Iowa:

  • Audubon 0.33″
  • Atlantic 0.22″
  • Boone 0.13″
  • Lamoni 0.13″
  • Des Moines 0.09″
  • Centerville 0.02″

Rain in southwest Iowa will continue to slow move south today. It will be dry across the state tonight and for most on Tuesday. A few spotty showers may move through north central Iowa through early afternoon. Another cold front will cross the state on Wednesday bringing the best potential for rain west to east through Central Iowa.

Overall, expected rain fall totals through late Wednesday night are not expected to be too high with only an additional two-tenths to half inch.

Looking at the rain totals for the summer season (June through August) and 2025 as a whole, Des Moines is slightly ahead in rainfall this year by a few inches.
