Steer clear of these 15 Iowa state beaches during Labor Day weekend, Iowa DNR says

IOWA — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says families and vacationers should avoid these 15 Iowa state beaches during Labor Day weekend.

Following regular weekly testing the Iowa DNR reports that 14 Iowa state beaches were found to have E. Coli levels higher than the standard. The affected beaches are listed below:

  • Backbone Beach in Delaware County
  • Beeds Lake Beach in Franklin County
  • Bobwhite State Park in Wayne County
  • Clear Lake State Park Beach in Cerro Gordo County
  • Crandalls Beach in Dickinson County
  • Emerson Bay Beach in Dickinson County
  • George Wyth Beach in Black Hawk County
  • Lacey-Keosauqua Beach in Van Buren County
  • Lake Ahquabi Beach in Warren County
  • Lake Darling Beach in Washington County
  • Lake Macbride Beach in Johnson County
  • Pine Lake South Beach in Hardin County
  • Pleasant Creek Beach in Linn County
  • Prairie Rose Beach in Shelby County

Blue Lake Beach in Monona County exceeded the state safety standard for Algal toxin action level, according to the Iowa DNR’s website.

Several of these beaches have been under a swimming not recommended advisory for several weeks due to persistent high E. Coli levels. Advisories will be in place until the levels drop below the state standard.
