DES MOINES, Iowa — We started off with nice cool morning temperatures, and our dry streak continues. We are well below normal rainfall-wise here in Des Moines for the month after a record-wet July. Still, Thursday’s drought monitor is clear.

The weather timeline steps you into Saturday in three-hourly increments to help you plan your holiday weekend. We do have tiny late-day rain chances every day (including today) through Sunday (and, yes, that includes Iowa City and Ames), but there’s a far better chance you’ll miss out on precipitation. The next rain chance comes late Tuesday into Wednesday as temperatures cool. The slideshow below shows you the timing. Rainfall amounts don’t look to be heavy.

Highs for the next six days are above, and your WHO 13 7-day forecasts below. The extended forecasts that follow keep us cooler than average well into September.
