FORT DODGE, Iowa — Firefighters battled a large, two-alarm fire in Fort Dodge Tuesday night.
According to the Fort Dodge Fire Department, just after 9 p.m., firefighters were called to the 1100 block of Central Avenue on reports of smoke coming from a building. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found smoke pouring out of the second and third floors.
The FDFD said the fire consumed the second and third floors, and multiple handlines were required to get the fire under control. Crews also had to remove sections of the roof to fully extinguish the remaining hotspots.
After a second alarm was called in for reinforcements there were a total of 21 personnel from the FDFD at the scene. They remained at the scene for roughly four hours.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
