DES MOINES, Iowa — The World Food and Music Festival is in its 21st year in downtown Des Moines Aug. 22-24.
Amelia Klatt is the director of events for the Des Moines Partnership. She said that roughly 100,000 will make their way to downtown Des Moines for the three-day event featuring around 50 food trucks highlighting more than 25 different cuisines from across the world.
Arturo Reyes and his wife officially founded Reyes Tamales two years ago. Last year, they were part of the Des Moines Partnership Spark program and had a booth for two days at the festival. This year, they have their license and are a full-time Downtown Farmers’ Market participant each Saturday.
Kaaswagen is locally owned in Pella, Iowa, by Diana Mitchell and her husband. The idea of the food truck came after they both retired but wanted to keep active. After a suggestion from their son, they decided to do mac n’ cheese featuring smoked Gouda that is made daily, along with locally sourced meats.
Whip Delight has been serving up Dole Whip and other various items for the past three years. Owners Matt and Hollie Imming said the idea originated after a trip to Hawaii, where they tried Dole Whip for the first time. Now, they travel around serving Dole Whip along with other items.
The World Food and Music Festival runs from Aug. 22-24. Artists Son Peruchos will headline the music stage Saturday night. A list for food vendors and music options can be found here.
