POLK COUNTY, Iowa — Beginning Wednesday Night at 10 p.m., the southbound lanes of I-80/35 between Douglas and the West Mix Master will close until 4 a.m. Thursday morning.

The southbound lane closures will also take place Sunday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 26.

Scott Nixon, the District 1 District Engineer for the Iowa DOT, said the project’s goal is to add lanes to the interstate.

“The Hickman job, as we call it, of course, is the expansion of 35/80. It’s basically adding lanes, auxiliary lanes, reconstructing ramps through the area and all three of the interchanges at University, Hickman and Douglas,” Nixon said.

Ramp closures at both the Douglas southbound on-ramp and the Hickman southbound off-ramp begin on August 27 and last through mid-December.
