POLK COUNTY, Iowa — Two people were killed and another was injured in a crash near Elkhart Tuesday evening.
At around 7:35 p.m. emergency crews were called to the intersection of NE 29th Street and NE 142nd Avenue northwest of Elkhart for a report of a crash involving two vehicles.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, two occupants of one of the vehicles died from their injuries sustained in the crash. The victims have been identified as an adult male, who died at the scene, and an adult female, who died at the hospital.
The sheriff’s office said the adult male occupant of the second vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital.
The intersection of NE 29th Street and NE 142nd Avenue will be shut down while the investigation into the crash unfolds. The sheriff’s office said the cause of the crash is not yet known. No additional information has been released.
