CLARKE COUNTY, Iowa — Two people were life-flighted after a crash that temporarily closed Interstate 35 on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred Saturday just before 2:30 p.m. on Interstate 35 near mile marker 26, north of Van Wert.
The crash report states a northbound Dodge collided with a semi-truck that was preparing to re-enter travel lanes after stopping on the shoulder due to mechanical issues.
The Dodge, driven by 41-year-old Natasha Lyons, came to rest on the median. While the semi, driven by 47-year-old Aden Somo, remained on the shoulder.
Lyons and her 11-year-old passenger were both life-flighted to Des Moines hospitals. The driver of the semi was not injured.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Lyons is suspected of impairment at the time of the crash, and authorities have begun an OWI Drug Investigation.
