DES MOINES, Iowa — The Johnson family shared their story with WHO 13 News back in June of this year.
Last fall, the family signed a contract with Davis Custom Homes based out of Johnston. Months into the construction build, they noticed that things were not being completed in a timely manner. Levi would notify the company and those issues would eventually get resolved.
But then subcontractors doing work on their property notified the family that they were not being paid for work they had completed. The Johnsons found that odd as they had already taking out loans for the contractor, Davis Custom Homes, to pay those subcontractors for their work.
The situation is ongoing, and eventually led to the family having to take legal action against the company who stopped responding to the client. There are 33 other construction sites in this exact same scenario with the same company. Davis Custom Homes filed for bankruptcy and the Johnson’s home is not complete.
A fundraiser is taking place on Friday, August 22nd at KPC Studio 360 in Waukee. Levi’s wife Madison works there and the owner, Dr. Kelsey Pettitt heard their story and felt like she needed to help.
“From Cracks to Comebacks” is a pancake breakfast with free will donations, raffle prizes and limited edition KPC shirts. The proceeds will be going to the Johnsons and all other families that are impacted by this. You can find the link to the GoFundMe here to support all the families that are impacted.
