Forecast: Scattered storms, then great weather

DES MOINES, Iowa — Hot weather will hang around, at least in part, into Monday. Scattered storm chances begin in the north and northwest Sunday evening and then spread into central Iowa overnight. Lows stay warm.

Northwest Iowa is at a slight risk for severe weather Sunday night, with wind being the main threat. That threat diminishes by Monday. Storms will become more isolated as the day moves on Monday, and they’ll eventually move into eastern Iowa by evening, ending our rain chances for the week!

We may see smoke move into parts of the state on Tuesday in the wake of our storm chances, but temperatures cool down a bit as the week progresses, as shown in the slideshow below.
