Woman accused of stabbing two dogs in Webster County

WEBSTER COUNTY, Iowa — A Lehigh woman was arrested last week for allegedly stabbing two dogs.

Harlie Mallinger, 41, is being held in the Webster County Jail on two counts of animal neglect with serious injury or death and two counts of animal mistreatment causing serious injury or death. The charges are all aggravated misdemeanors.

Mallinger is accused of stabbing an American bulldog and a terrier in their chests with a knife on August 1st at her Lehigh residence. Court documents state she “intentionally tried to destroy or injure” the dogs. Recent blood pools were located in the home’s basement, where the dogs were kept.

A news release from Webster County Animal Protection, the agency that was called in to assist with the dogs, stated that they were rushed to a veterinarian for care.

Court documents said the dogs weren’t given adequate food or water and were denied medical care when they were diagnosed with mange. The animals were also covered in feces and infection.

Mallinger is being held on a $20,000 cash bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 22nd.
