AMES, Iowa — A trail improvement project at Ada Hayden Heritage Park in Ames means trails will be closed for about 10 weeks.
Starting Monday, August 11th, all hard-surface trails at the park will be closed. The project calls for removing the current 10-foot-wide asphalt trail and replacing it with a 12-foot-wide concrete path. Ames Parks and Recreation also said path connections to Edgewater Court, Fletcher Avenue, and Stonebrooke Road will be replaced as part of the project.
“Replacing the asphalt with a wider concrete path will provide a more durable and enjoyable experience for all park users, improving accessibility and safety for all,” said Joshua Thompson, Parks and Facilities Superintendent.
Ada Hayden’s north parking lot, fishing pier, boat ramp, and Upland Trail will still be open and available for use while work on the other trails is being done.
The department is encouraging residents to enjoy other Ames trails during the construction of the new path. You can learn more about Ames’ parks and trails here.
