Almost 7″ of rain fell in parts of Iowa in just a few hours

DES MOINES, Iowa — Heavy rain hit parts of Iowa hard Thursday morning. The slow moving storm system produced a couple of inches per hour in southern Iowa. The heaviest rain fell in Mystic with 6.9″ reported. Mystic is located in Appanoose county. This area was under a flash flooding warning with water reported over a few roadways. The Des Moines airport measured 1.21″ by 11 AM and Johnston reported closer to 2″ of rain. This strong storm did also produce some wind damage in Lineville.

It is going to be dry the rest of the day. The heat will be climbing on Friday. The smoke could cause some air quality issues as well. The south wind will be strong at times with gusts as high as 30 MPH.

More rain is possible this weekend with a cold front sweeping through. The heaviest rain is targeting southern Iowa again.

Friday will be the hottest day in the next 7 days with real feels close to 100. The rain will continue to add up by Tuesday.
