THOMPSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WBRE/WYOU) – Two Pennsylvania state troopers were shot Thursday morning, Gov. Josh Shapiro confirmed.

The investigation began around 11:30 a.m. in the area of State Route 171 near Thompson Township and Susquehanna, located in the northeastern part of the state.

Information on what led up to the shooting of two state troopers is limited at this time.

“Lori and I are praying for those troopers. It is an active situation,” Shapiro stated, referring to the first lady during a press conference in Bucks County.

Both troopers were taken to local hospitals.

U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan said in a statement on X that he was “relieved to hear the troopers involved in today’s incident in Thompson Township are expected to be in stable condition.”

State police are expected to provide an update with information about the officers and what is known about the possible suspect or suspects.

Sen. Dave McCormick said in a post on X, “Dina and I are praying for our brave state troopers in Susquehanna County and monitoring the situation closely as more details emerge.”

Local commuters have been advised to avoid the area until further notice.
