18-year-old arrested in connection to two Des Moines shootings, facing slew of charges

DES MOINES, Iowa — An 18-year-old was arrested in connection to two Des Moines shootings and several other alleged crimes on Tuesday.

On July 10, the Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a gang-related shooting in the 1100 block of 10th Street that resulted in a juvenile male suffering non-life-threatening injuries. According to the DMPD, 18-year-old Sari Camp was identified as the shooter.

Over a week after the shooting, the DMPD responded to another shooting. On July 19 officers responded to a home in the 2400 block of Saylor Road where it was reported that the home was hit by over two dozen bullets. Earlier that day, the DMPD also responded to an attempted theft of several vehicles at the VA hospital, which police say was connected to the shooting. Police accuse Camp of taking part in the incident, along with two other individuals who have already been charged.

On Tuesday morning, the DMPD said it located Camp at a Des Moines residence. As officers tried to arrest Camp he fled on foot while armed with a handgun. After a short search of the area officers located Camp and took him into custody.
