Two killed in eastern Iowa crash Saturday evening

DELWARE COUNTY, Iowa — Two people were killed in an eastern Iowa car crash on Saturday evening.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:15 p.m. in Delaware County at Highway 38 and 310th Avenue, southeast of Hopkinton.

A Chevy was northbound on Highway 38, and a Volkswagen Beetle was southbound on Highway 38 when the Beetle crossed the center line and struck the Chevy head-on.

The driver of the Chevy, 33-year-old Anthony Mentzer, and the driver of the Beetle, 44-year-old Bobbi Bauers, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Hopkinton Fire and EMS, and Koob Towing.
