DES MOINES, Iowa — One person was killed during a motorcycle crash in Des Moines on Saturday evening.
According to the Des Moines Police Department, DMPD and DMFD crews were called to SE 30th Street and E. MLK, Jr Parkway on reports of a crash with injury just before 9 p.m.
First responders arrived as bystanders were performing CPR on a 34-year-old male motorcyclist who had crashed. Medics took over care and transported the motorcyclist to a hospital in Des Moines. No others were injured in the crash.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the motorcyclist died at the hospital. The name of the victim has not been released at this time.
After speaking with witnesses and examining evidence on the scene, authorities say the preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcyclist lost control while traveling northbound on SE 30th Street and crashed into a concrete barrier.
Police say the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit continues the technical investigation of this crash.
