AG Bird holds annual Barn Bash talking about current efforts, reelection campaign

ADEL, Iowa — Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird discussed her current efforts in office and her 2026 re-election efforts at the third annual Barn Bash in Dallas County.

Taking place at the Dallas County Fairgrounds, the event featured a chicken dinner, a pie auction, and games. AG Bird delivered a speech with remarks on ongoing efforts to crack down on crypto scams against seniors, the University of Iowa DEI lawsuit, and working with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.

“People who work at the University of Iowa talking about how they are disregarding and getting around the law, the legislature passed that says they can’t do DEI. These are tax-funded universities paid for with your tax dollars, and instead of changing and following the law, according to the video, it looks like they just renamed it,” said Bird. “So, we have launched an investigation we are going to get to the bottom of it.”

Bird also spoke about having President Trump back in office and the impact of his first 100 days, along with her trips to Washington, D.C., including the signing of the HALT Fentanyl Act.

“We are so thankful to have President Trump back in the White House, that has been amazing. With what he is doing to stop the drug cartel, to fight fentanyl, what he is doing to get the federal government under control, so glad,” said Bird.

Bird also spoke about preparations for her 2026 re-election campaign, saying that her work over her past term serves as a reminder of all she has done and can do for Iowans.

“I believe 2026 is going to be a pivotal election, and it’s nothing that we can take for granted. Last time, we kind of caught them napping in the Attorney General’s office a little bit, but this time around, they already have a candidate running against me for the last few months, a liberal out of eastern Iowa. So, we are gonna, were going to work hard, we are gonna do a good job, and we are gonna run on a record on my work on behalf of Iowans.”

Senators Ted Cruz and Eric Schmitt were expected for the event but remained in Washington due to the Senate staying in session this weekend.

Bird will be up for re-election on the November 3rd ballot in 2026. Also on the ballot is the gubernatorial seat and Ernst’s seat in the Senate.
