DES MOINES, Iowa — Police have released the name of the man who died after being shot late Monday night in the Southwestern Hills neighborhood and announced an arrest in the case.
Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer of the Des Moines Police Department, said Pleasant Hill resident Terry Barrett, 47, died at the hospital following the shooting at an apartment complex at 2221 Stanton Avenue.
On Tuesday, Sgt. Parizek said Amarianna Findley-Murry, 19, had been arrested in connection with the case. She is charged with persons ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, a serious misdemeanor. Evidence gathered by investigators indicates that Findley-Murry shot Barrett during a dispute.
Police recovered a handgun as part of the investigation. Court documents identified the weapon as a .40 caliber handgun. Findley-Murry is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to an active order of protection.
She is being held in the Polk County Jail.
