IOWA — A complex of rain and thunderstorms moved through Central Iowa overnight, bringing rainfall totals in Des Moines to a new July rainfall record. A few severe storms impacted parts of the state early Wednesday morning, but no major damage was reported.

The heaviest rain fell in an area from the northwest side of the Des Moines Metro through Perry to north of Carroll. This is where 2 to 3″ estimates were common. Evening storms developed in this part of the state that brought heavy rain before midnight, with the overnight complex coming through after midnight.
