URBANDALE, Iowa — Dozens of people participated in a Krav Maga class Sunday, learning more about self-defense and techniques for real-world situations.
Krav Maga is a combat system developed for the Israeli military that focuses on instinctive movements and quick, effective responses. Taught around the world, it incorporates elements of martial arts and combat sports.
Sunday’s class was held in Urbandale at Triumph Martial Arts, which hosts classes in Krav Maga along with other martial arts forms. Master Alain Cohen is a 6th Dan Black Belt and travels teaching the methods and values of the art.
“For women or for kids when someone is grabbing your hand saying hey follow me, Or when a man is too much goofy get to close to the woman and would grab her and try to kiss her. How to disengage. How to stop this. We have some different where there’s a knife attack, fight with guns, attack with the stick. This is the kind of situation we work on here in Krav Maga,” said Cohen.”
