Viral French-Asian bakery now open in West Des Moines

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — A popular French-Asian bakery has made its way to Des Moines.

Tous Les Jours opened its first Iowa location in West Des Moines on July 4. The bakery offers a variety of sweet and savory pastries, cakes, breads, and a selection of coffees.

The business quickly went viral on TikTok with hundreds of videos, gaining thousands of likes. The popularity on the internet has translated to a sold-out store at the end of each business day.

Vinay Mallineni, co-owner of Tous Les Jours along with his brother, said that they were excited to open the bakery in Des Moines.

“We just want to have a nice, welcoming atmosphere and to have a chat in a café,” Mallineni said. “And also we just want to bring that culture. And so that’s when we decided to open.”

Mallineni also said that lines often long and sometimes loop out of the door due to the popularity. In the first couple weeks of being open, they would be sold out of everything by 2:00 p.m.

Now, they are looking to hire more bakers and staff to meet the increased demand. He said what they were expecting for business, essentially was doubled. He and his brother are also grateful for the kindness and understanding for customers visiting when they have been slow, or out of stock due to demand.

“The amount of support that they are giving us kind of relieves some of the stress,” Mallineni said. “When we say we are out, they say, ‘Oh, we understand’.”

Until the additional bakers are hired, Mallineni recommends that customers arrive between 9 and 10 a.m. to have all items to select from. However, the business is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
