One in custody following shooting incident in Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE, Iowa — One person is in custody and an investigation is underway following a shooting incident in Fort Dodge on Saturday.

According to the Fort Dodge Police Department, just after 3:30 p.m., the Webster County dispatch center received a call of shots fired on Avenue M West, near the Westridge Townhomes in Fort Dodge.

Fort Dodge PD officers and Webster County deputies arrived on scene and were directed to an area where witnesses say a male was shooting. According to witnesses, the male fired a handgun into the air multiple times and then took off running.

Authorities began a search of the area in an attempt to locate the suspect. A search warrant was obtained and executed in the 300 block of Avenue M West, where the suspect was located.

21-year-old Benjamin Crouse was taken into custody and charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and Reckless Use of a Firearm.

Authorities say an investigation into the incident is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available. Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact the Fort Dodge Police.
