One dead after car rolls several times in Des Moines County crash

DES MOINES COUNTY, Iowa — One person is dead following a crash that caused a car to roll several times in Des Moines County, north of Burlington.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, just after 11 p.m. on Friday, a Kia was traveling southbound along DMC Highway 99 at excessive speeds when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Kia then entered the west ditch near a driveway located along the 16000 block of Highway 99.

As the car traveled along the ditch, it struck a culvert, causing the vehicle to be launched into the air and to roll several times before finally coming to a stop on its top.

The driver of the Kia was ejected during the crash and died at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to the hospital with injuries.

Iowa State Patrol has opened an investigation into the accident.
