Driver killed in alleged police chase in Clear Lake identified

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa — The driver who died in a crash while alleging leading police on a chase has been identified.

At around 1:40 a.m. Sunday the Iowa State Patrol (ISP) says that a trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2015 Ford Focus that was traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver allegedly failed to stop and led law enforcement on a chase throughout the city of Clear Lake, according to the local news outlet North Iowa Today.

An ISP crash report states that during the chase the driver lost control, hit a tree, and then crashed into an unoccupied house and two legally parked vehicles near the intersection of 4th Avenue South and South Shore Drive. The driver died from his injuries at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

On Tuesday, the ISP identified the driver as 22-year-old Zachary Hill from Forest City.
